The sacred fruit of the Cacao bean is truly a gem of nature! Its white flesh is a treat, bursting with sweetness and rich flavor

I enjoy drinking ceremonial cacao, particularly when I need a little extra love and comfort. I don't have it every day because it is a powerful medicine that I reserve for special occasions or ceremonies. It enables deep connection, opens the heart, and offers transformative experiences. When preparing ceremonial cacao at home, it's important to approach the process with reverence and intention.

Ingredients I use to prepare my ceremonial cacao:

  • Ceremonial-grade cacao: should ideally be 100% pure, raw, and unprocessed, without added sugar, fillers, or preservatives.

  • Water or plant-based milk

  • Sweetener (brown sugar, maple syrup, or agave syrup)

  • Spices (cayenne pepper, cinnamon, chili, or cardamom)

  • Pinch of sea salt (to enhance flavor and cacao’s absorption)

  • Medicine herbs (medicinal mushrooms, blue lotus, etc.)

Tools I use to support & deepen my connection with cacao

  • Sage or Palo Santo

  • Music

  • Crystals

  • Favourite Ceramic Mug

How to prepare Ceremonial Cacao

  1. Cleansing Your Space:

Begin by cleansing your space with Sage or Palo Santo to eliminate any dense or negative energy.

  2. Sound for the Soul:

Play medicine music or sing Cacao Songs to enhance the experience (more information below).

  3. Measuring Your Cacao:

For a starting dose, use 20g of ceremonial cacao for one mug. You can adjust this amount based on your personal preference or sensitivity to cacao.

  4. Preparing the Tea:

Heat about 250ml (1 cup) of water and brew the tea with the herbs you have selected.

  5. Grating the Cacao:

Grate or chop the cacao into small pieces or shavings. This will help it dissolve more easily in the liquid.

  6. Combining Cacao and Liquid:

Add the grated cacao to a pot and stir constantly over low to medium heat (do not burn the cacao!). Once the cacao is fully dissolved, mix in the tea and/or milk until you achieve a smooth, rich consistency. You can use a whisk, spoon, or hand blender for better froth if desired.

  7. Sweetening and Spicing (Optional):

Add sweeteners and spices to taste. Be mindful when adding these ingredients, as each can influence the energy of the cacao.

  8. Simmering and Stirring:

Allow the cacao to simmer for a few minutes, stirring occasionally. This will help meld the flavors and ensure a smooth, well-mixed drink.

  9. Serving and Sipping Mindfully:

Pour the cacao into your cup and let it cool slightly before sipping. This is your sacred moment—take time to focus on your intentions, your breath, and your connection to the cacao.

Tips to deepen your connection with Mama Cacao

Set Intentions:

Before preparing the cacao, take a moment to set a clear and sacred intention. Consider what you would like to focus on during the ceremony, such as healing, manifestation, clarity, or gratitude. Hold this intention in your mind as you prepare the drink.

Create Sacred Space:

Prepare your space with mindfulness. You may want to light candles or incense and have crystals nearby. Surround yourself with calming music or sounds that will enhance your ceremonial experience.

Gratitude:

Express gratitude for the cacao, the plants, the earth, and the indigenous traditions that have shared this medicine with the world. Cultivating gratitude helps align the heart and opens you to receive the full benefits of the ceremony.

Drink Slowly:

As you sip the cacao, be present in the moment. Pay attention to the warmth of the drink, the richness of its flavor, and the sensations in your body. Use this time to reflect, meditate, or just sit with your emotions.

Mindful Consumption:

Drink the cacao slowly and listen to your body. Some people may feel energized, while others may experience a deep emotional release or physical warmth.

Closing the ceremony or ritual

At the end of the ceremony, take a moment to express gratitude to the cacao and any other energies you've worked with. Journaling any insights and emotions can help you integrate the experience. Preparing ceremonial cacao at home allows for a deeper connection with yourself and the spirit of the cacao, fostering a transformative experience.

May your heart always remain open to the magic within and around you. Carry this sacred energy with you, and let it unfold in your everyday life.

With warmth and love,
